Workshop Theme: Explicit Teaching of English in Practice

In this workshop we will explore a variety of literacy teaching activities such as shared reading and writing, close reading, information transfer tasks and accountable talk by actually experiencing them in practice or by watching videos of classroom teachers. We will also consider how to adapt such practices to different contexts – students of different ages; students of differing proficiency in English; different areas of the curriculum – and in particular, the challenges involved in employing such practices in the Hong Kong context.
